If you want to play Mausritter, you first need a brave mouse hero! In this guide I’ll explain step by step how to create your own character. Let’s get started right away – the next cheese heist in roleplaying might already be waiting!
1. Attributes – Your Mouse’s Core Stats
Your mouse has three attributes that tell everything about their strengths and weaknesses:
- STR (Strength): How strong and resilient they are.
- DEX (Dexterity): How nimble and agile they move.
- WIL (Willpower): Their determination and charisma.
To determine the attributes, roll 3d6 (three six-sided dice) for each attribute and keep the two highest dice results. This gives you values between 2 and 12. If you like, you can then swap two of the values – this helps adapt your mouse knight better to your playstyle.
2. Hit Points (HP), Pips and Background
Now it gets exciting! Roll 1d6 to determine your character’s Hit Points (HP). HP show how much damage your mouse can take before things get serious. Then roll 1d6 again for your Pips – that’s the currency in the mouse realm.
Now for the background story: Based on the values for HP and Pips, you can look up in the table which profession your mouse practiced before their adventurer career. For example, your mouse knight could have been a wire-worker or survived as a street fighter. The profession also determines what equipment you get!
For example:
2 HP and 5 Pips: Your mouse was a blacksmith and begins with a hammer and a metal file.
1 HP and 2 Pips: Your mouse was a kitchen-forager and starts with a shield, light armor and cookware.

3. Starting Equipment for Your Adventure
Your mouse knight is ready for adventure and receives:
- Torches: So you don’t grope blindly in dark caves and underground passages.
- Rations: So your mouse doesn’t starve on the journey.
Plus two items from your mouse knight’s background and a weapon that you choose yourself:
- Weapon choice: Decide whether your mouse knight carries a light (1d6), medium (1d6 or 1d8) or heavy (1d10) weapon. Depending on which weapon you take, it can be wielded one-handed or two-handed. But be careful, after combat your weapons can show wear!
If your highest attribute isn’t above 9, roll again for a second background and choose another equipment option. If your highest value is even 7 or lower, take both items!

4. Character Details – Make Your Mouse Unique
Now comes the personal finishing touch! You can select the details of your mouse knight from various tables or determine them with dice. Look in the tables in the rulebook to see which results lead to which character traits:
- Birthsign: What personality does your mouse have? Brave or clever, curious or angry? A roll on the d6 decides this.
- Coat and Pattern: What does your mouse look like? Whether you play a gray, brown or even blue mouse – the combination of coat color and pattern makes your character unique.
- Physical Features: Maybe your mouse has a scar, a missing ear or particularly sharp eyes. Here you can get really creative!
5. Inventory – What Does Your Mouse Carry?
Your mouse knight has only limited space for their equipment. There are three types of inventory slots:
- Paw slots: These items your mouse has immediately at hand, like weapons or torches.
- Body slots: For armor or other worn equipment.
- Pack slots: This is where the stuff goes that you don’t need constantly. But watch out: In combat it takes an action to dig something out of the pack.
You should also be careful not to carry more items than you have slots for, as this leads to encumbrance. If your mouse is carrying too much, you can no longer run and have disadvantages on saving throws.
Conclusion on Mausritter Character Creation
And that’s it! Your mouse knight is ready for adventure. With dice, imagination and a few clever decisions you’ve created your own brave mouse hero. Now the journey can begin – whether as a brave warrior, skilled thief or clever wizard. The world of Mausritter awaits you!
